Derma Planing

One of the trendiest hair-removal options today is dermaplaning. Derma planing is a physical exfoliation method that requires the use of a sterile surgical scalpel to gently shave the top layer of the skin, the stratum corneum, dead skin layer, and vellus hair, aka peach fuzz. This is completely against CA State Board rules and regulations for estheticians.

Do you really want to trust a non medical professional using a scalpel to your face?! While there are many benefits as listed below, you can get the same results without any risk at The Loft Spa in Costa Mesa, CA. The Loft Spa uses a new device DERMAFLASH LUXE, which is the most updated model of this device invented for at-home dermaplaning.

DERMAFLASH LUXE is essentially a sonic powered device with proprietary designed blades with built-in safety features. The blades are only used once and recommended as often as once a week.

As much as I love this device though…. I highly recommend you leave it to your esthetician to use on your skin. While the claim is “when used it provides for the most gentle, frictionless, at-home dermaplaning experience”, it takes great skill to PROPERLY use it on yourself at home. Also, I must add that I recommend this to be used only every 4 weeks.

You must hold the device always at a 45 degree angle, and while maneuvering around the curves of your face and areas you can’t even see in the mirror….. you can injure your skin!

I definitely recommend giving it a try if you are a candidate for dermaplaning- not experiencing a lot of inflammation or cystic type acne and over sensitive skin. But leave it to the professionals!

Benefits of Dermaplaning

  • It painlessly exfoliates the stratum corneum to stimulate cellular turnover with little to no downtime.

  • It is a great option for clients with sensitive skin and pregnant women who are looking for a deep exfoliation.

  • It can be performed prior to treatments like facials, laser, microdermabrasion, and chemical peels for better product penetration.

  • It can be performed frequently.

  • It helps makeup go on smoother and more evenly.

  • It can help significantly lighten post-inflammatory scars from past acne.

  • It does not make the hair grow back thicker and darker.
